HSA have given out a caution against using a whitewashing ointment, which comprises more than 3,000 times the permissible quantity of mercury.

On 22/5/2017, the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) warned members of the public not to purchase or use Royal Expert Whitening Cream.

The product, sold online, claim to have skin whitening and anti-wrinkle properties.

Those who have purchased the merchandise should halt the using of it at once and dispose it, HSA said.

Mercury is a toxic substance and regular application of creams containing mercury could lead to rash, skin discolouration and blotching.

Chronic exposure to high levels of mercury in cosmetic products may also affect the kidneys and nervous system as it can be absorbed through the skin
